Grassroots: When five minutes after the event is anounced on Mountainbuzz the shit talking begins.
When the rules and format for the race are not decided until the posse of 10 racers and about
as many spectators leave Ted’s Place at 5:45 on race day. When there is no one to say go. When
it is a boaterX and the words “game of gentleman” are tossed about sarcastically. When there is a family
picnicking on the flat house rock at the base of Whiteline cheering you on. When you pass your homeboy (Leif)
on the move through Whiteline chuckling because you know he already owes ice cream.

When the overall winners baby mama is talking trash with the new wives club (about their no good men of course).
When frontrange Fred’s first run through the upper narrows is the race line and no, he did not stop to scout.
When the finals, a boaterX through simply the lower narrows turns into a bar brawl with a Frenchman for second
place, and an unnamed boater (Leif) secures his ice cream losses after leading out the gate. When you go back to
town to celebrate at the Crown Pub and find Whiteline legend Tyler Avalon already privy to the results. When the
man who swam with the moustache redeems himself, securing the 1st place prize bull fighters belt buckle,
a homemade pie and the bragging rights… until next year.

When once you know who’s first and who’s last and you can say that it really isn’t about who wins or loses, it’s about how good you look doing it.
Big thanks to the friends and family who came up to run safety and watch this special event unfold.
